Before you begin a plumbing project, it’s important to find out roughly how long it’s going to take. With this information, you can plan your project and ensure it fits in with your schedule. To give you a general idea, we’ve put together a typical plumbing project timeline.
How long will a plumbing project take?
Research: 2 days-1 week
Whenever you get going on a project, it’s important to start with some thorough research. You should spend time working out the kind of work you need doing and finding reputable plumbers in your area.
It’s probably best to spend about a week doing this. This will give you time to find several professionals, ask them for quotes and compare them. It’s also a good idea to search for customer reviews for each of the professionals you find to work out whether they’re the right pro for you. If you’ve found them through our service, visit their profile page to find their ratings and reviews.
However, many plumbing jobs can be pretty urgent, so if you don’t have a week to spare to do research don’t worry. Try to spend at least a couple of days if you can though, so you end up with a pro you’re happy with.
Plumbing work: 1-2 hours
Once you’ve got a plumber round to your property, it shouldn’t take long for them to do the work you need. Jobs like unblocking a sink or replacing a faulty valve in a toilet cistern should take around an hour. Unblocking a toilet and fixing a burst pipe or toilet are jobs that tend to take a bit longer, but probably no more than 2 hours.
To get an accurate idea of how long your project is likely to take, ask the pros you find to give you an estimate when they provide you with a quote. Just bear in mind that if they run into complications then it could, of course, take longer.
Total time: 3 days – 1.5 weeks
So your plumbing project will probably take sometime between 3 days and 1.5 weeks.
